RIAA Not Sharing Settlement Money?

The RIAA has sued over 20,000 music fans to “protect artists’ copyrights“, but the money still isn’t being shared with the artists. A large number of artist managers claim that their clients have seen little to none of that money, and are now considering legal action.

Artist managers and lawyers have been wondering for months when their artists will see money from the copyright settlements and how it will be accounted for,” said lawyer John Branca, who has represented Korn, Don Henley, and The Rolling Stones, among others. “Some of them are even talking about filing lawsuits if they don’t get paid soon.

figures. i flipping hate the riaa.

That’s great. The RIAA will get the other end of the stick.

I read something the other day about this and the RIAA is saying it is trying to figure out how much money artists should get because they say not every artists should get the same amount due to some having their music shared more than others.

In theory that does make sense, but they should have had something in place before they started throwing out lawsuits. This is money that should have gone straight to the artists who deserved it. Any excuse the RIAA comes out with has no merit at all.

The only way I could see them figuring that out is to know exactly what songs were downloaded all across the board, divide them by artist, and then calculate the statistics behind each artist being downloaded. I guess that’s not out of possibility since all it takes is a really good algorithm and a lot of time and/or manpower, but does anyone really believe this is what is holding them up?

Here’s the obligatory “F*ck the RIAA”. I don’t see how they can’t figure out who gets what money after all this time. They’ve been suing people for years now, right?

this what they should do. give more money to the bands who don’t get paid as much. rather then giving more to bands like nickleback or Korn who make more than enough money already.

Im wondering how much money the RIAA has actually recouped so far. Some of those lawsuits were for large sums of money, and I have trouble believing that if any of us were in the same situation….who has $1.2 mil just lying around. Its going to take a lot of the losers of these suits a long time to ever pay them off. Thats not to say they’ve recieved nothing and cant be working with the artists or lawyers to figure out some payment structure, but I doubt they’ve got back even a portion of what they’ve sued for.
