Hinder Imply They’re The Original Partying Rock Band

In an online interview with AltitudeTV, Hinder claims that Saving Abel is copying the band because of them having fun with fans and drinking. They don’t state verbatim that they are the original, but imply it by saying that they are the band being replicated. In a twist of irony, Hinder just announced they will be heading out to tour with Motley Crue next year, one of several notorious partying rock bands to precede them.

Ughhh…I like Hinder but come on. There’s no reason to try and drum up press this way.

  3. Jay October 16, 2008 at 3:19 pm #

the real irony is that not 20 seconds earlier, they rattle off a list of their “influences”.

I really like the Hinder guys, and I know this particular thing was an idea thought up by their marketing team and not their true personal feelings, but they should have told the marketing team to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Wait until Frazier hears about this one haha.

No one drinks more Jager than me buddy and I’m not an alcoholic redhead :D

    Wow. A scrotum tat? That’s next level…

  7. Jason October 16, 2008 at 3:47 pm #

Actually after watching this I don’t think they are claiming they are the original party band. I think what he was trying to say is that they were the first band to bring it back after it was gone for so long, kinda the first band to be a throwback to the 80s party bands. At least that’s my take on it

  8. Cfw828 October 16, 2008 at 4:16 pm #

    Saving Abel > Hinder.

  9. Jay October 16, 2008 at 4:27 pm #

in an interview with TuneLab Music, they actually credit Sick Puppies with their new found partying – http://www.tunelabmusic.com/2008/08/27/interview-with-eric-taylor-of-saving-abel/

  10. worsttofirst04 October 16, 2008 at 4:46 pm #

i agree w/ cfw and they definitely should have used a better marketing angle than that. instead of implying it w/ words, i would have had them show up wasted or drinking during the interview a little bit…that would probably send the same message in a “motley crue” sort of way minus the excess coke and in nikkis case heroin

  11. matt27lk October 16, 2008 at 4:59 pm #

Listening to hinder and motley crue is about as entertaining as gaining an STD

  12. Raven October 16, 2008 at 5:00 pm #

i’ve never heard of this band before. as far as first impressions go, that was abysmal.

  13. Meagan October 16, 2008 at 5:16 pm #

    Huck Finder.

    That is all. Carry on.

  14. Lucas October 16, 2008 at 5:18 pm #

When I read the title of this I figured it’s just a marketing ploy to get their name out for their new album. So silly. Back to the drawing board indeed please.

  15. Mikel October 16, 2008 at 5:20 pm #

Jay your title says they claim to be the original, then in your post you say that they are implying. The title is a little misleading don’t ya think?

  16. Jay October 16, 2008 at 5:25 pm #

    there, changed it

  17. ntrj October 16, 2008 at 5:28 pm #

Sigh. This makes me dislike Hinder even more.

  18. Chainsaw2112 October 16, 2008 at 6:14 pm #

I always figured that, ya know Buckcherry did the entire ‘partyband’ act long before Hinder came around.

  19. USF Bulls October 16, 2008 at 7:12 pm #

The cheesiest thing about this interview is that it is set up in a bar and every member has a drink in their hand. Come on, like that was not staged. I agree this is all promo publicity

  20. Justin1888 October 16, 2008 at 7:29 pm #

This is one of the MILLION reasons why Hinder sucks b#lls– buy a vowel!

  21. Lucas October 16, 2008 at 7:35 pm #

    I’ll by an “E”, Pat…. ?
    ***ERRRRR***

No? Dang. Screw you too, Vanna.

    [I have no idea.]

  22. Mike October 16, 2008 at 8:40 pm #

“I know this particular thing was an idea thought up by their marketing team and not their true personal feelings”

I don’t understand why you said that Jay. The guy from the band said it so how is it their marketing teams fault? I don’t think anyone told them what to say before the interview.

Although I’m sure the marketing team will end up taking the blame either way to avoid the band receiving backlash.

  23. Jay October 16, 2008 at 8:57 pm #

I say that because that’s likely the case. I’ve done lots of interviews, I’ve sat in on several more, and I’ve been privy to the strategies behind several others. Hinder is about to release a new album. Saving Abel is getting great sales and even better radio play. The Hinder camp takes a shortcut in marketing by tying their name to Saving Abel’s. It’s a fairly old play not really used that often, and this one was quite poorly executed. Even the setup of “like who?” “Saving Abel” “uh-oh” was poorly acted out. They clearly came into the interview with the intention of getting this out. It’s almost as dumb as Buckcherry’s “Too Drunk” getting “leaked” online.

  24. Jay October 16, 2008 at 9:27 pm #

And to the PR people who undoubtedly will read this, look, I’m not trying to be an a-hole by posting stuff this way, and we “play along” with most stuff and post it how it’s intended to be posted, but some things are just too ridiculous and transparent. Particularly in this case because Hinder doesn’t need the extra press. They can always use extra press, but there are a million other ways to do it that don’t require a lot of extra thought and don’t run the risk of backfiring.

And to everybody else, if we never have an exclusive Hinder video again, you’ll know why. This is posted in this manner because I have too much respect for the readers of TuneLab Music than to post MTV-ish and gossip-rag type stuff that’s obviously fabricated and designed for ‘other’ types of music news sites.

    thanks jay, much appreciated.

  26. Justinw303 October 17, 2008 at 2:58 am #

    You rock, Jay. You rock.

  27. ntrj October 17, 2008 at 5:12 am #

That’s why I will continue to come to this site for my rock news, Jay. Thank you for telling it how it is.

  28. Raven October 17, 2008 at 5:50 am #

So in trying to be “Rock n Roll” they’ve achieved the complete opposite by being controlled by some corporate guy with a hand up their ass, using them as puppets to say dumb things to generate money.. well done, rock on.

  29. ausgor October 17, 2008 at 6:40 am #

I love how bent out of shape everyone gets about Hinder. Nickelback must be loving it too.

  30. Metallisker October 17, 2008 at 8:02 am #

Gay chick rock. And don’t compare Nickelback to Hinder.

  31. ausgor October 17, 2008 at 8:26 am #

Not a comparison, just saying that they are probably enjoying that the masses have turned their hatred to a different band.

  32. josh October 17, 2008 at 8:35 am #

stupid stunt? so what? i don’t care so long as they release a few songs i enjoy listening to every now and then.. i mean frankly I don’t party all that well to staind or taproot; somebody can fill the niche. if its hinder, fine by me lol

i don’t care about the image of a band, so long as i enjoy it. hinder isn’t necessarily who i go to for quality musical performances (it is music, but on a different level), so i’m not gonna get all tied in a knot over this.

side note.. since when have the masses hated nickelback? lol

  33. Mikel October 17, 2008 at 8:51 am #

josh are you trying to say nickelback doesn’t get hated on????

  34. Metallisker October 17, 2008 at 9:27 am #

Nickelback gets slammed by the media and hard-rock “purists.” It’s ridiculous. They are an awesome band and rock harder than most. It’s ‘trendy’ to bag on Nickelback. The media loves trends. Go listen to:

    Breathe
    Flat on the Floor
    Side of a Bullet

Tell me that isn’t excellent hard-rock.

  35. S9Dallasoz October 17, 2008 at 9:45 am #

“You know when you hear a song on the radio and you don’t know who it is, but you love it and feel like you’ve heard it before? That’s our band! The first time someone hears us, they go, ‘I know that band!’ Then someone explains, ‘no, it’s a brand-new song and band.’ Saving Abel has an accessible and comfortable sound—-you HAVE heard us before,” states lead singer Jared Weeks. – allaccess.com

    LOL

  36. FooAreYou October 17, 2008 at 1:57 pm #

There’s more disgust in the recent issue of Blender with an interview of the lead singer. I get the impression that he proudly stated that he has a DUI, as if it’s cool to do that. Just wait until he kills somebody.

    Ugh this band. Just ugh.

  37. Chainsaw2112 October 17, 2008 at 2:45 pm #

I saw them in 2005, when they opened up for Default, and watched as roughly half the 150 people in the crowd walked out 5 minutes into their set.

I’ve been told often it was a bad night.. but you don’t see THAT many people simultaneously dub something crap, unless its crap.

  38. babyturtle1979 October 17, 2008 at 3:09 pm #

Please lay off the party n and you just might be able to come up with an album worth listen to ….rock on SVING ABEL … seen them twice live …they rock ….and one place was ROCK ON THE RANGE ….wonder what bar these f@@ks were at …cause they werent at the show .

  39. youliedtome October 17, 2008 at 5:20 pm #

See ive never liked hinder one bit. get stone was a good song but then that dreaded lips of an angel came out. so ok move on. i didnt buy that cd. and i can totally see why they bagged on SA…have you heard 18 days and addicted? at first i had to check what station i was on and sure nuff….OCTANE but it does seem like SA are copying hinder from the musical side of things…if you havent noticed….The thing i like the best is this…hinder plays for chicks make music for chicks…good for them they bring them to shows more. Us HARD ROCK PURISTS hate these bands cuz they are not in it for the music. I think once your music hits a top 40 station, you are not hard rock anymore….period. it may be a good song but it just gets to the wrong people. and those people are not in fact Rockers…. its whatever.

  40. ohgreat October 17, 2008 at 7:24 pm #

Nickelback is responsible for the marketing strategy of “cock rock” in the first place. Saving Abel are simply copying the success on the heels of having their single ‘Addicted’ shoot to #2 on the Mainstream Rock Chart off of Billboard.

The critics are taking heat. There is no room for “cock rock”. I think, as I read from most of the posts, that it’s a revival for the 2000s. Grunge overtook what was left of party rock as the 80s drew to a close.

Take it as a blessing or curse, either way.

  41. Year of the spider October 17, 2008 at 7:40 pm #

When i first heard saving able a hinder rip off is all i could think off.

  42. Justinw303 October 17, 2008 at 9:59 pm #

Hinder had some decent songs on the last album, but along with buckcherry, Saving A, Theory of a dead, etc., it looks like this “cock rock” trend may be here for a little while.

  43. worsttofirst04 October 17, 2008 at 11:19 pm #

well yeah it’s not like they (hard rock artists) really intend to write top40 music. they write good songs then top40 comes along, discovers it, then submits it to the rest of the masses who dont realize or understand the great side to “pure rock”, and then from there it just gets ruined after they bleed your ears w/ it 50 times a day because of how good it is. in some ways its good for rock music and in other ways, its not.

  44. rockett October 18, 2008 at 7:40 am #

Saving Abel is a STEREOSIDE rip-off….

And Hinder should not be jealous of their success. Saving Abel didnt achieve crossover radio play like Hinder did.

200K of SA vs/ 2M of Hinder? Those guys should relax.
