Pretty awesome. I can hear a little similarity to 3DG, too, but not too much that I’m thinking they stole the song or something haha. I’m digging it. I still think I like “Hero” better honestly.

So I wonder if they did away with the strings on this album.

Sounds pretty darn good. I can see the similarities to 3DG’s song, for sure.

They share the same riffs like Red, esp why “Death of Me” from their Innocence & Instinct LP was so effective because what both bands share is the Christian label, they’re both from the state of Tennessee, and share that ‘hard’ rock attitude in musical taste. Obviously it’s a reason that I’m sooooo addicted to the genre of alternative, either in metal or rock. Definitely has a hook with the song “Monster” from Skillet’s new LP coming out in the next full month. A good choice

…Wow. Im not one to usually judge bands for having songs that sound similar to other songs but this is way too much like Animal I Have Become.

I think ‘Monster’ is a million times better in my opinion. Who cares if 2 songs sound alike, it doesn’t take away from it. Skillet > 3DG in my opinion

Song sounds awesome. I think you guys are making more out of the similarities than you should be.

If you are gonna cover a 3DG song, at least pick a good one. Every single song on Comatose is better than “Hero” and “Monster”, hell I would release “Live Free Or Let Me Die” over this crap. My expectations for this album just dropped dramatically.

I am so disappointed, I will go on record on this: This album is gonna suck. 10 songs and their two “best songs” off the record are only halfway decent. Ive only had “Hero” for a month and I feel like skipping it whenever it comes on, Ive had “Comatose” for almost 3 years and I dont even think about skipping one song off of it.

No, you don’t. You don’t get it. You are not even close to the point of getting the thing that we all consider as it. It does not figure in on your getting time table. It is so far away from your getting that your getting will have to take a space shuttle just in order to reach the orbit of it.

After listening to 3DG “Animal I’ve Become”, Red – “Death of Me”, and this song, I’m convinced they’re all the same song with some slight tweaks. But its all good, cuz they all rock! I still have faith for this album though. I actually like “Hero”. So, hopefully the rest of the album is up to par.

I just had an urge to listen to Godsmack’s “Sick of Life” and I just realized that this album title is the same as Godsmack’s a few year’s back with Sick of Life and Awake among others, hmmmm….. interesting

The next word that I did have a hunch was ‘rip-off’. The riffs sound eerily similar like why Coldplay have went as far as going “blue in the face” in NOT admitting that they’ve ripped off the riff off of Joe Satriani (”If I Could Fly” from his 2004 album, Is There Love in Space?). But still, more questions THAN answers. I don’t mind anthemic songs esp with “Monster” from Skillet. Their Comatose LP wasn’t my cup of tea. That’s the only negative I’ve got to say so far and not complain about the new song.

I’m so glad I have the new AIC track to keep my mind off of how badly this is ripped from Animal I’ve Become.

Like seriously, could we be just a tad less original?

I don’t think it sounds that much like 3DG myself. I mean, the bands themselves are very similar. They use they same type of guitar effects and Jon and Adam sound eerily similar at times. I don’t know, I can sorta see some similarities but you guys are complaining of a complete rip off.

Oh well, I for one have enjoyed both songs thus far. Neither live up to “Rebirthing” (few songs do), but their both better than “Whispers in the Dark.” A pair of great opening singles in my opinion. And I really didn’t like “Animal” all that much.

If I was a fan of Skillet I would be really dissapointed.

wow yeah skillet toured with 3dg too long i guess. its not a bad song, i just can’t get into it tho since its so similar. even the part right before it goes into the last chorus where its just a single guitar and him singing the first few lines of the chorus (sure a lot of songs have that) but it just makes it all the more obvious the blatant ripoff of the song. and of course the lyrics and title (caged inside, can’t control it, etc…). skillet should know that if they’re going to ripoff a song they should at least not have the same subject matter and lyrics as the one they’re copying.
still looking forward to the cd just probably gonna skip this one more often. and like others said what happened to the strings? if they added those at least it’d add a little different dynamic to it. hero is much better

you all are f***ing crazy. the only thing thats the same with the guitars is the effects. the drums are nothing alike. the vocals arent even close. the chorus’ sound nothing alike. th beat is different. i guess you can kinda say that the guitar during the chorus is similar. thats about it.

The whole structure of the song is the same, not just the sound. The subject matter is the same. Everything about this song is pretty much ripped from Three Days Grace. It isnt an exact copy but it is damn close. You are crazy for not hearing it.

The vocal melody, drum tempo, timing and chorus all sound just like it. Other than that, its original lol.

A part of it also has to do with Howard Benson producing. He produced One-X and that signature Three Days Grace sound that you hear on Animal I Have Become.

dum dum da diddy diddy dum dum is 3dg’s riff and skillets goes dum diddy dum da dum, dum diddy dum da dum. They are def. different riff patterns. yes the voices sound similar at times but really I’m not seeing enough resemblance to call the song a ripoff. I like Monster, it’s very catchy

Now there is no need to tell everyone how right you think you are. I can lyrically see how its the same but when i listen to it i just don’t hear it like you say you do.

I’m amazed at those of you who don’t see the resemblance. It’s uncanny…even up to the very end of the song. I’m not one to accuse a band of ripping someone off b/c none of us really know. I’m skeptical of it being a direct rip as I would expect a rip to be more subtle – this one is similar in both sound and lyrical content. If one were to give them the benefit of the doubt, it’s possible it’s a subconscious influence – such as hearing the 3DG song while writing this one and not realizing the influence. On a scale of probability, it might be a bit towards the “less” side but it is possible.

Sure it sounds like 3DG but its still good I think.

Oh. My. God. Skillet has become an extensive touring band if you can hear how the comparison to Three Days Grace is going on and on, on and on…(making reference to the Energizer bunny).

I can’t wait for the new LP. At least I’m proud that Comatose would become the breakout LP it has become and that there is a vocal distinction of sounding like an Adam Gontier in the mix, ha ha!

the structures the same? the intros are different. the verses are different rythms. skillets has 2 parts to the chorus tdg has 1. after the second chorus is def. not in animal. plus monster has more of an upbeat song. animal is slower more depressing song. im really missing anytihng thats similar exept the guitar during the chorus

The biggest thing I see is listening to the vocal melody for Adam and John in both songs, especially during the chorus. 90% of the songs are the same. The drum tempo(not the actual drum hits) is almost exactly on, as said before the chrous rhythm is the same, the lyrics are basically about the same thing. I love both bands and will continue to listen to Skillet, but this song is based almost completely off of AIHB.

alright had to listen after reading all this. definitely see how you guys hearing animal, but honestly with as much music as i listen to, there are going to be songs that sound similar. and i bet most of you can say the same. i don’t think that skillet fans should be disappointed whatsoever. really don’t think they are similar enough to imagine that they intentionally “ripped off” that song at all. certainly not close enough that any sort of lawsuit would be able to develop. you wouldn’t be able to play his vocals to the three days grace music like you could with the coldplay song. i am curious what pen thinks. we seem to view things very similarly most often.

thats true its not one of those songs you can play with each other and they fit like coldplay and joe satriani or nickelback and nickelback (someday and how you remind me). and monster is a whole minute shorter then animal. the more i listen to it, its growing on me and the similarities don’t bother me as much. and like many pointed out monster has that second chorus part

I’m going to join the team that says it sounds like 3dg. I just listened to both songs back to back and also had them both playing at the same time. I think there are STRONG similarities – not saying Skillet RIPPED OFF 3dg…but I expected more from them.

I’m looking forward to this album. And love the song.

Wow, this is crazy everyone. Skillet hands down is one of the best and most popular Christian rock bands out there along with Red, 12 Stones, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Flyleaf. Without this song, the album will most likely be up to par with the last few if it sounds like Monster and Hero. Even with it it still will be great. So, I’m pretty psyched for it.

i think this is the first band that i’ve listened to that actually sounds better live than on CD.

I’m gonna start this by saying that I HATE any of you people dare call yourselves skillet fans or “panheads” when you just started listening to them when Comatose came out, when Collide was easily just as good, and for the matter, any of you accusing Skillet for “ripping-off” a song. And that there are going to 12 songs on AWAKE and not 10?? O! and thank God that one of you; Cfw828, realizes that Howard Benson PRODUCED One-X and two Skillet albums thus far, so its extremley easy to see why the songs share some similarities, its just the style he creates in his music along with the work of the multiple different artists he works with. Another thing, Skillet changes their style, each new record to fit in w/ popular, mainstream rock music to please and attract more fans, but in their own creative fashion, its what we call “smart.” I can see what your trying to get at, but you have to realize that Skillet is a christian rock band and gets plenty of their ideas out of the Bible!! HUH!! OMG!!! RED is a christian band too!!! Do you know what that means children??? They got their Death of Me concept from the Bible too!! :O P.S. you cant even tell me Im wrong on that lil’ tidbit because there is proof on the DVD that comes with the Deluxe Edition of Innocence and Instinct. i have never been , and i have heard it’s really good. i was actually really psyched to see oceana after hearing their new album too but they broke up so they won’t be there. but i like oh sleeper, and project 86 and a lot of others so i think it will be a good time.

panhead no one was arguing that they’re not christian. same with red. everyone knows they are and naturally their lyrics will reflect some of their beliefs and the bible. that said, i have been a fan since the “hey you i love your soul” album. wow have they changed since then haha (in a good way).
i also heard that there will be 12 songs on awake cuz they just recorded one. do you know if it will only be on the deluxe version? or what that version will include? i’ve tried to look it up but no luck so far. i preordered the cd already but its just the regular edition.

My best guess would probably be that it will be on the standard edition?? Just a guess, but they WILL eventualy produce a deluxe edition of “AWAKE” probably very similar to the Comatose one. . . I think because they were able to record it ahead of time it has a good chance of being available on the standard edition. Unlike “Open Wounds” or “Live Free or Let Me Die” the additional track was recorde before the release of the album. But knowing my freakin luck itll end up being an exclusive bonus track on a deluxe CD or through some special offer crap!! Yeah, but according to “InsideRevolution.net” (no caps needed) claims that extra song is titled “Believe”
