Slipknot's Corey Taylor Tried Out For Velvet Revolver

Slipknot / Stone Sour front-man Corey Taylor has confirmed that he had auditioned and was being considered as the front-man for Velvet Revolver after the departure of Scott Weiland.

Taylor said, “I had a meeting with those guys , we did some demos together, and it just didn’t work — for whatever reason.

He added, “It was just really cool. It was one of those things where it’s like I could have got to jam with legends, man, in my opinion. But, you know, it was cool, and I still know those guys, I still hang out with them, and I still have nothing but respect.

I lol’d out of light humor. Corey Taylor has a great voice, just ain’t right for VR however.

I really like corey taylor, and not talking about his music. In all his interviews he just seems like the most down to earth decent person that you could sit and have a beer with and chat about anything for ages. Its like he has been through the whole ‘rockstar ego’ and come out a champ.

Damn. I think Corey is a great singer, and I like VR too (“Contraband” at least), but I am glad this did not work out. Two entirely different styles that I doubt would have meshed.

I’m also glad it didn’t work out. VR has gone the way of a bad joke lately. I still think Taylor’s voice can adapt to any style of rock. I just wouldn’t want to see him get into that weird situation. They will probably end up with Chris Cornell as the frontman.

  8. harpster says:

he didn’t make it because he sucks ass.

  9. Joe says:

Better off staying in Slipknot. Every ex-member of GnR is a hot, steaming pile of douche.

If Corey Taylor did sing for them I might actually listen to them…. But it looks like Im not going to waste my time still and go ahead and not listen to them still!

  12. flyfreak says:

Wait….Wait….pconner, I just got news that Lil Wayne is the new lead…..

I think everyone’s on the same page on this one: SUPER talented dude. Awesome band. Not a good combo. Let them each do what they do best. Corey Taylor and Anthrax?? That could’ve been amazing.

  14. TH'NEWBLACK says:

It would sound really weird having Corey Taylor sing for them but, I could see that being awesome if they down-tuned their guitars a bit and went more grungy. But, Taylor should stick to Slipknot and StoneSour.

  15. flyfreak says:

Well they did let Corey go only after my audition…..just saying…..

  16. Heather says:

i think Corey Taylor is a genius. He’s one talented mother fucker…
