TuneLab can now confirm through our independent sources (not any “official” source), that Breaking Benjamin is in fact broken up, despite statements to the contrary earlier this evening by their website’s administrator. Vocalist Benjamin Burnley told the rest of the band two weeks ago that he was “quitting music” and that they should seek other employment. He repeated that statement to them last week as well. There is no word as of now if that will impact Ben’s two booked solo acoustic shows in July. The statements that the band is “on hiatus” are due to Ben’s camp hoping they can convince him to change his mind and return with new musicians later this year, so there is a chance this could be only temporary. It has been stated several times in the past that he is the only official member of Breaking Benjamin, and that the rest of the band were just hired musicians.
The website/community of Shallow Bay will be shutting down completely, and they will be holding a “Gathering by the Bay” send-off for the site tentatively planned for August that will feature Lifer as a headlining act. Mark Klepaski and Aaron Fink had brought up the idea of a Lifer reunion a few months ago, and original vocalist Nick Coyle has already agreed to help make it happen. The Shallow Bay will still be shut down regardless of whether Ben decides to return with a re-formed Breaking Benjamin or not.
Update 1:08pm EST: Just as a clarification, the one Lifer show is not confirmed, just in the works. Also, the label is pushing hard to discredit TuneLab and say that the info is incorrect, despite it being true. As of right now, they are compiling “statements” from band members that will all say they are not broken up and that the band is still together that they will post on the official site. Despite these forthcoming statements, we stand by our original story, which in the end will prove to be true.
Update 2 1:51pm EST: The label has asked that I clarify that our “confirmation” is through our sources and not official. The only “official” sources who can “officially confirm” the information are Ben Burnley, the band’s management, or Hollywood Records. Again, Ben will be releasing a statement shortly stating that the band is not broken up.

Didn’t see “quitting music” coming. I really didn’t want Breaking Benjamin to break up, just to get some new ideas. This is upsetting, even though I give Dear Agony a lot of shit, I love most of their music. Hopefully Ben returns one day refreshed.

Pay close attention to the title and the final line, this is the founder of the Official Breaking Benjamin site stating “The band is on hiatus this summer with no news related to future shows”. The site is the official site of the band and therefore a credible source on the bands activities. This is what citing a third party source to confirm a story looks like, take a note of it. Any site that is not doing this is just spreading gossip and speculation in order to get traffic.

And if you read the news it says Fixer will be doing a send off show…ever think the other members of the band that were in Fixer were contacted by Jay? Just had an awesome listen to ‘We Are Not Alone’ today. One of the stand out hard rock bands going around, and one of my all time favorites. This bands history has seemed on rocky ground since ‘Phobia’ which is sad because seeing them live before that, and even during the first ‘Phobia’ tour they seemed like a real brotherhood. Very sad and dissapointing news if this can be confirmed.

Is everyone forgetting that Ben has been fighting health problems for a few years now and that touring has been taking a toll on his health? As sad as this is if he is quitting music as being said he is probably doing it for his health. And also remember he just got sober a few years ago and I’m sure its a huge struggle to say sober out on tour night in and night out. Hopefully he will miss the music and come back in the future but until then it was a good run and best of luck to all the guys in their future (Ben included).

Breaking Benjamin will never be “broken up” for the same reason Smashing Pumpkins and Everclear are never “broken up”. Ben considers himself BB so therefore when he runs out of money down the road, he will surround himself with whatever muscians he deems fit and call it a BB reunion just like Billy Corgan has done and just like Art Alexakis has done. I’m sure there are other examples too. I hope Ben continues to make music b/c he can write some damn good songs. I don’t personally know him but he sure comes off as a dick doesn’t he? We didn’t call him a “reliable source” and not name him… the source of that information was David Bendeth, who was producing that album.
This particular situation is an exact mirror of what happened with Earshot several years ago. We posted it, singer denied it, everybody hated us and said we were an unreliable gossip site, then it turned out everything we said was true. We’ve been down this road before.

Hey everyone, Benjamin here. I am officially letting everyone know that Breaking Benjamin has NOT broken up! This is just a false rumor that, through the miracle of modern technology, has unfortunately spread.
I am currently taking some time off from touring to further address some health issues that I have been dealing with for some years now which has been posted previously on the shallow bay website and expressed in many recent interviews. I am performing two solo acoustic shows in July but this in no way means that I have left, or am ever going to leave, Breaking Benjamin.
In closing I’d like to thank our incredible fans for their concern. The only thing that I ask, is for everyone to not believe any rumors you hear on the Internet especially when it does not come directly from the band. We hope that our fans know that we love them and are forever grateful of their continuing support.

TL is typically very good with reliable sources. I was supposed to go see BB in Vancouver last month and they bailed on the show with no official statement as to why or an apology. I can believe they are breaking up, but I can also believe it’s possible that TL’s source was wrong. It happens. This site is pro BB, so it would be uncharacteristic for the site to want them to break up.
Chad Szeliga has now stated that they are not breaking up.

I am not affiliated with TL and could care less about their reputation, but I will say they are correct.
I have known the band (the ORIGINAL band) since the beginning – before they were signed. I saw them play weekly at tiny bars in PA with ten people in the audience. I was there when Bug was kicked out. I was there when Mark and Aaron left Lifer. I was there when Jeremy got canned for wanting to be a mature adult and not get hammered in every city.
Ben has been treating Aaron and Mark like paid studio musicians for a long time now. It may not be Breaking Benjamin “breaking up,” but band members – as much as we love them – can be replaced. Ben is Ben. Or Benjamin, sorry.
If you have never been involved with the music industry, you have no idea the spin that goes on. Of course HR is going to say “The band is fine” and try to make money off them for as long as they can. Yes, they have a single on the air right now and the CD is still selling. There is no reason to announce the band is done, even though everyone around them knows they are. I hate it, but it is true.
