One of the goals of tunelab is to try and come up with unique ideas or different ways that bands (primarily unsigned bands) can try and “make it” in the modern music industry. As music sales decline, bands have to find other avenues to generate income with things like merchandise, but it’s hard to generate a lot of excitement about a t-shirt. That’s why we’re excited to introduce an idea we came up with: the waveform song wristband.
The waveform song wristband (as the name implies) is a silicone bracelet with the unique waveform of a song, i.e. your band’s current single, either embossed, debossed, or screen printed on it, in either the traditional 1/2″ size or the wider 1″ size. It comes in a variety of colors and is custom made using whatever song you choose. And at a cost of about $1 per wristband (or much less at quantities over 100) and a suggested ‘retail’ price of $5-6, there’s a decent profit margin to help raise money for the next tour or album. Sell them outright or as part of a bundle wrapped around a rolled up t-shirt.
Fans will love it first and foremost because it’s stylish and unique. In addition, it allows them to express themselves by wearing that song around, and offers the sort of secret, personal connection like a Chinese script tattoo because other people won’t know what song it is unless they’re told. If your song has a theme or meaning to it that’s significant to your fans, they can use them as inexpensive gifts to give to people to convey that meaning. And again, it just looks great. Don’t just take our word for it though — ask your fans. If you’re a fan, tell your favorite bands, and leave a comment below with your thoughts.

This is really cool. At first I thought TL was actually selling custom bracelets for 5 bucks a pop, which I’d have totally gone for, but it looks like only bulk for now. Posted about it on FB, though.

Jay I think this is an absolutely awesome idea – I would buy one for sure…Probably multiple…Now just a matter of getting it to catch on wide enough.
