Almost two years ago I wrote an article called “How To: Attend Any Concert Free” as a means of warning people against posting concert (and other event) tickets online on social media sites and sites like craigslist. It pointed out that if you posted pictures of the ticket online—or more specifically the barcode of the ticket—anyone could easily use that and with just a few minutes of effort get into your event for free as long as they got there before you.
As social media has grown even more in the last couple years, particularly photo-centric sites like Instagram and Pinterest, this has been happening more and more, and now even local news stations are hearing stories of it happening to people. So read this again as a reminder: don’t post pictures of your tickets online!!
